Last year we launched our Script Window. A bespoke and personalised script feedback project. We’ve heard time and time again that writers lack the opportunities to get professional feedback on their work. Script Window is our response to this need. During this scheme you’ll have the opportunity to submit your completed drafts to our two readers who will deliver you a full feedback report.
We’re welcoming back Naomi Obeng and Alice Chambers as our professional readers.
Naomi Obeng
Naomi Obeng is an artist and playwright. She was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize For Playwriting with her first play, and won Nottingham Playhouse’s family show commission in 2020. Her play fangirl, or the justification of limerence, was part of Three Acts of Love performed at Live in Newcastle and published by Methuen Bloomsbury. She has been a Script Reader for the Royal Court, the National Theatre and ATG Productions and has assessed submissions for Nottingham Playhouse, Derby Theatre, IGC and New Diorama Theatre’s Untapped Award, as well as working as a dramaturg. She is a member of the Dramaturgs’ Network UK.
Alice Chambers
Alice Chambers is a director and dramaturg, based in Birmingham. Passionate about community-centric, form-bending stories and deadpan humour, Alice has read for leading organisations and awards across the UK, including the Bruntwood Prize, Sky Comedy Rep, the Royal Court, Papatango, Rafia Hussain Productions, and the Victoria Wood Prize. She believes in theatre as a tool for systemic liberation. In January 2026, she directed an r&d for Clive Judd’s new play ‘Sabrina’, produced by Emmerson & Ward, and a new audio play with Calathea Arts about Street Art & young people in Birmingham. Currently, she is reading for the 2026 Papatango Prize, as well as an r&d for James Trevelyan's new play 'Chase', with Lichfield Garrick— a story about conspiracy theories and digital isolation, all set on Cannock Chase.
Feedback we had from last year’s script window:
The feedback is superb, giving me the confidence and concrete suggestions to move forward!
It's a great encouragement to have the work read so sincerely and a great use to have such a powerful set of suggestions to plug into it.
It certainly is useful, thank you so much. It's the first time I've felt that someone has read my script, taken an interest and made some suggestions that I can work with. I'm really grateful to you for your sympathetic appraisal. Thanks
Feedback was detailed, sensitive and supportive. Better than what I've previously paid for!
What you need to know:
This scheme is only open to writers either from or currently based in the Midlands
We are only accepting scripts for theatre and live performance. This can include community theatre, theatre for young adults / children, or nontraditional theatre venues – it just has to be destined to be performed in front of a live audience. We are not accepting scripts for radio, TV, or film
We’ll need a competed draft – we’re asking for an end, a script ready to be drafted again, and at least 5 pages long
If you submitted a script last year to our window, you are welcome to submit another script or the same if it has undergone a full redraft (please let us know in the form if you submitted a script last year)
The window is only open for a week and will close when we reach the deadline (Sunday 17th at 23:55). If we recieve over 50 scripts, all scripts will be selected at random. You will be emailed if your script has been selected or now.
How to submit your script:
Please send your draft scripts as a PDF or Word document – any scripts not sent in this format won’t be accepted
You will also need to fill out a supporting form along with your script*
Email both form and script to igc@derby.ac.uk with the title 'Script Window Submission'. You will receive a receipt of receival.
*This year we’re asking for you to submit your script and the form found below. This form just asks a bit about you and the script, any triggers, and what feedback you’re specifically looking for (if any). This comes from feedback from both writers and readers to ensure we’re hitting the criteria you need. You may be looking specifically to see how the characters feel to the audience, or want to know if your narrative order makes sense. You could also just say you want general feedback – whatever works best for you.
Scripts submitted without a completed form will not be accepted.
You can find the form here:
If you cannot open this form, please amil us at igc@derby.ac.uk
This window will run Monday 11th May – Sunday 17th May 23:55
