ABOUT

ABOUT
IGC

In Good Company is the flagship professional creative and business development programme for theatre makers and companies in the Midlands, providing mentorship, business support, resources and high-profile performance opportunities. In Good Company has transformed how artists and venues communicate and co-create exciting new performance platforms, commissions and touring networks.

In Good Company (IGC) is an independent organisation. Our programme is shaped by ongoing conversations with freelancers and artists at every stage of their careers, ensuring it stays relevant, responsive, and rooted in the real needs of the artistic community.

IGC exists to engage, inspire, and champion a thriving network of artists. We offer a wide-ranging programme to Midlands-based creatives, including performance platforms, workshops, commissions, festivals, artist meet-ups, and tailored mentoring.

At our core, we’re here to support grassroots artist development — helping artists create bold new work, build lasting relationships, and forge the networks they need for the future. Whether it’s with fellow artists, venues, or organisations, IGC is here to help make those connections meaningful and lasting. As part of our commitment to long-term growth and sustainability in the sector, we offer free artist development consultancy to all partner organisations.

Email Jen if you're looking to build new programmes, strengthen artist support structures, or shape strategic development plans. Our team is on hand to advise and collaborate.

WHAT WE DO

WHY DO WE
NEED IT?

Making theatre is challenging, now more than ever. Support structures can be patchy, and access to meaningful development opportunities is often limited. To address this, we need to grow the critical mass of artists living and working in the Midlands — ensuring the region is recognised as a place where artists are actively supported, developed, and celebrated. Crucially, we must be proactive to dismantle oppressive structures to diversify the voices and perspectives shaping the stories we see on stage.

IGC is built on the belief that a partnership between an artist or company and a venue is not just practical — it’s an artistic act in itself. The artist brings vision, rigour, and fresh ideas; the venue offers resources, expertise, and, perhaps most importantly, a curious and engaged audience. When these elements work in harmony, something powerful happens.

We support artists and companies at pivotal moments in their development — led by their needs. This might mean developing new audiences, becoming financially resilient, expanding their skill sets, deepening their artistic practice, and creating work that is both ambitious and relevant.

At the same time, funded organisations, who rely on the freelance workforce, must join forces to equip one another to back new voices and champion new ideas. IGC fosters a culture of collaboration and resource-sharing across the region, so that the Midlands operates not as isolated pockets of activity, but as a connected, forward-thinking creative ecosystem.
