On 30 April we’re hosting FROM SCRATCH! at The Y Theatre in Leicester!
Call Out Deadline: Tuesday 12 March, midday.
FROM SCRATCH! is an evening where performance makers can share their work-in-progress with a live audience and hear feedback and development ideas. It’s a time to get your show seen and ask the questions you want to hear from audiences.
We’re joining with The Y Theatre on Thursday 30 April to ensure there’s a space for your work to be heard by audiences as it develops. From today until Tuesday 12 March we’re calling out for performances that are 15-20 minutes long at any stage of early development. This could be script in hand or a piece getting on its feet, FROM SCRATCH! is for YOU.
Info for you
Successful performances will receive
A fee of £300
Rehearsal and tech time with a technician
Filming and photography of your piece
A meeting with IGC to help support the next steps
Successful companies will have to register as a supplier with University of Derby for payment. (We'll talk you through it upon selection but this means payment details are in line with Universities and paid via BACs within 30 days from the scratch night performance)
FROM SCRATCH! will take place at Derby Theatre Studio on Thursday 30 April. Artists will have to be available during the day for a tech plotting session and run through which will be allocated in advance. This time will give you space to try things out with a technician and have some rehearsal photos taken.
We are not a producing company and as such cannot help produce a script. We are on the lookout for performances that are already on their feet and ready to get specific feedback from audiences. We’ll be asking you to provide three questions you’d like to ask the audience. These could be ‘how did this character make you feel?’ ‘Does this style of delivery work overall?’.
There will be a photographer present taking images of the rehearsals and the live performance, as well as a videographer making a recording. These will be sent to the companies after the performance to be used for future promo and will be used by IGC so future promotional use.
Access Information
The Y Theatre has a lift to the space, but the lift can seem small. Artists in taller chairs may have to duck to enter the stage – please drop us an email and we can provide images / videos.
Directly opposite the dressing room there are two steps with no handrail (walls either side), then through a door 4 uneven stairs with a handrail on the right
Approx. 6m down the corridor artists can enter the wing then use a set of 7 stairs with a handrail. It is a little narrow at the top of the stairs.
We will work towards making your time in the scratch as comfy as possible and as such can discuss access requirements upon selection.
If there’s anything you’d like to discuss along the way, please drop us an email igc@derby.ac.uk
Deadline: Tuesday 12 March, midday.
Application
To apply for the scratch night, please send us 500 words about your piece, how you want to develop it, and who the audience is. We will also accept 2 minute video applications also outlining the above.
Decisions will be made by IGC, Y Theatre and a freelancer. We will let you know the outcome by Friday 20 March. We unfortunately cannot offer feedback on individual applications.
Email us at igc@derby.ac.uk with the email title ‘FROM SCRATCH! Application’. Please attach any marketing images you have as well. If you require any access support in applying for this scratch night, please email us for support.
